Gomukhasana or Cow face pose: Steps,benefits and its Precautions-

Gomukhasana is derivered from three sanskrit words 'Go' means 'Cow' ,'Mukh' means 'Face' or 'Mouth' and 'Asana' means 'Posture'. In Gomuknasana our knees take a shape like a Cow's Mouth. That is the reason we also says it Cow Face pose. Gomukhasana is the one of the sitting asana in Hatha yoga that strengthens our upper body part and increase the flexibility. This asana is also a best way to reduces the stress or tension and makes a mind relax and calm.

Steps for Gomukasana of Cow Face pose:

  • Firstly,sit in vajrasana on a mat or floor.
  • Then,lift the hips up and sit in left side.
  • Now,take your right leg across the left leg such that your right knee sits directly above to your left knee.
  • Make sure you not sitting on either of your feet.
  • Now,take your left hand behind from below and your right hand behind from above and interlock your both hands and looks up.
  • Feel the stretching in your back and hold the posture for 30 seconds to 1 minute or according to your capability.
  • Now,firstly release your hands,release your knees and come back in vajrasana.
  • Repeat the same process with reversing the legs and arms.
  • This is the one cycle of Cow Face pose or Gomukhasana.
  • Repeat same like this 4-5 times to takes effective results.

Benefits of Cow face pose or Gomukhasanna:

Tips for Beginners:

  • If you are unable to lock the fingures behind the back of may grasp one end of a small piece of cloth in the right hand or the other end of the cloth in left hand.
  • If your are not comfortable sit in crossed leg position,you will use the block under your hips to easily practice Gomukhasana.
  • Practice it daily to take a effective results from this asana.
  • Do it early morning with empty stomach.
  • If you have any problem or difficulty to practice this asana take the help from trainner or your partner.

Precautions:

  • If you have any shoulder injury should not practice this pose.
  • If you have any knee pain or knee avoid this asana.
  • Person suffer from neck pain should not practice this asana or pose.
  • If you have any issue in your hips,should not practice this asana.
  • Persons suffer from any ankles or wrist injury should not practice Gomukhasana.

When to do it :

We know that everyone suggest to practice yoga in morning. so,the early morning is the best time to practice Gomukasana or cow face pose. Make sure that practice it with empty stomach to take a effective results from this asana or pose.There is no any rule to practice it,you will practice it anytime in day.But practice it early morning without eating anything to take a effective results from this asana.
