Halasana(Plow Pose):How to do it and its benefits:

Halasana(Plow Pose)-

Hala = Plow

Asana = Posture

Halasana is derived from two sanskrit word 'Hala' which means 'Plow' and 'Asana' which means 'posture'.Halasana is that pose in which we take a shape like a plow. Halasana is perform with the help of sarvang asana. Their name 'Hala' is the most popular agriculture tool in india that helps to prepare the field for sowing and grow crop.Like that, this pose improves our flexibility and strength and prepares us to lives to healthy and fit life.

How to do it:

  • To practice any asana or posture, first of all stretches your entire body to avoid injuries.
  • To perform halasana, first sit with your legs straight and relax the spine.
  • Lie on the floor and both of your hands are close to your body and your palms on the floor.
  • Now inhale, then while exhale, raise your legs straight upwards at a 90 degree angle.
  • When you lift your legs 90 degrees off the floor, you can also support your back with your hands. This is a posture of Sarvangasana.
  • Inhale deeply, and push your hips down and bring your feet above the head and touch your toes from the floor.
  • When your toes hits the ground and you fall into the balanced position of the halasana, you can leave your support from your spine.
  • Now, your both hands fingures are interlocked each other and place your arms directly on the floor.
  • Make sure that Keep your knees straight.
  • Breathe normally through your both nostrils  and hold the posture for several minutes according to your capacity or flexibility.

Release posture:

  • Firstly,release your hands.
  • Now slowly exhale and bring your back on the floor and comes in to the 90 degree angle.
  • after that slowly bring your legs on the floor and comes into the posture of Shavasana or corpse pose.
  • Now,relax yourself and take breathe normally.
  • Bend your knees and move your body in one side,lift yourself and sit in sukhasana or any comfortable posture.

  • You can use the chair when you lift your legs above the head to touch the ground.
  • Place blanket under your  shoulders when you feel uncomfortable.
  • You should also support your spine with your hands and pillows when you comes into a sarvangasana posture to avoid back injury.
